The U.S. Declaration of Independence and Constitution




“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness” (Jefferson 1).  



            This quote reflects primarily the words of Thomas Jefferson. The congress chose five men to write the declaration of independence, but Jefferson wrote the first draft.  Some of the leaders that worked toward the USA independence were Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklyn, Roger Sherman and Robert Livingston (History.com 1).  This text proclaims the Independence of the thirteen colonies from the Great Britain. It declares the rules and the regimen in which Americans used to live.

            This quote reflects the persecution and the deprivation that Americans used to live. It reflects the British laws and exploitation of work that Americans were exposed. There was not equality, there was a lot of racism involved and slavery. The thirteen colonies were run by the Britain government. Americans had not freedom to speak for themselves, and there’re not equal rights. The Britain government violated rules and laws. A lot of Americans were killed, discriminated and exploited.  Furthermore, this quote reflects despair, desire for independence and happiness. It relates that all men are created equal with only one creator, which I believe is God (Jefferson 1).


This declaration text was written to the supreme judge of the world. This act declared the thirteen colonies free of the British ‘s rules and governance (Jefferson 1).  Then, these were declared the thirteen independent states of the United States.  Which are, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia, Connecticut, Massachusetts Bay, Maryland, South Carolina, New Hampshire, Virginia, New York, North Carolina, and Rhode Island (History.com 2). Also, after the independence of U.S., the constitution of U.S. was written.  It suggests the rules and the laws in which the United States should be governed. It constitutes of seven articles and different sections of laws and rules that each state must follow.

Trans-national America



“They believe that the most effective integration will be one which coordinates the diverse elements and turns them consciously toward working out together the place of America in the world- situation. They demand for integration a genuine integrity, a wholeness and soundness of enthusiasm and purpose which can only come when no national colony within our America feels that it is being discriminated against or that its cultural case is being prejudged” by Randolph Bourne



Bourne’s essay suggest that America is characterized as a diverse culture, which is compare as a melting-spot. It’s composed of many immigrants from different cultures that come to America to look for a better life. Bourne states that America doesn’t have a specific culture, if not that it’s a mash- up of different cultures and beliefs. Everyone is free to hold their customs and traditions. The Anglo Saxon were the first immigrants in America.  Although America is derived from the Anglo Saxon, Bourne suggest that America doesn’t hold a specific culture, if not that it’s characterized of different cultures and immigrants.

This quote emphasizes unity and collaborative work as a country. The United States is considered as a multicultural nation. Bourne’s main idea is to define America as nation of freedom in which people live as they want with their own beliefs and customs. He states, that although the British form part of the America history, America is characterized by different cultures. Bourne wanted an unified nation with honesty and freedom. He states that considering Anglo Saxon as the America’s root will not make America as a multicultural nation.

Finally, America is characterized by millions of immigrants which hold different beliefs. USA is a culture in which everyone is free to practice their own customs. I think that Bourne concerns as viewing America as a multicultural nation, and not as country derived from a specific root is seen today in the United States. There’s no America national culture, if not a nation characterized by different cultures. However, I believe that there’re some people including the president Trump that does not consider immigrants as the main constitution of the USA. I think he should be more supportive with those immigrants that came to USA to look for a better life, specially those children of DACA. Immigrants are the ones that characterized America. Anyhow, I still consider that the United States is a multicultural nation that doesn’t have a specific culture, and that is what I like about USA.

Inverted Totalitarianism




“The increasing power of the state and the declining power of institutions intended to control it has been in the making for some time. The party system is a notorious example. The Republicans have emerged as a unique phenomenon in American history of a fervently doctrinal party, zealous, ruthless, antidemocratic and boasting a near majority. As Republicans have become more ideologically intolerant, the Democrats have shrugged off the liberal label and their critical reform-minded constituencies to embrace centrism and footnote the end of ideology.” (Wolin 1).  

This quote reflects the situation we’re facing today in the United States. Republicans have taken power over the United States.  They’re controlling USA with their beliefs and mandated laws. There’re not citizens or institutions that could prevent Republicans from controlling this nation. This is the only party in America history that shows little compassion for others. This’s a conservative and religious party which doesn’t consider homosexuality or lesbianism as right. Also, Republicans are considered as an energetic and devoted party that its only goal is to achieve their objectives. Some citizens dislike Republicans because of their rules and lack of compassion toward citizens.  On the other hand, Democrats are considered libertarian which allows homosexuality, hold different ideas and support immigrants.

This quote caught my attention because it reflects what’s happening today in the United States.  Donald Trump and the Republican party have taken power over USA. They discriminate Hispanic and immigrant people. Trump doesn’t care about the poor and immigrants. Some of the citizens that voted for him are regretful because of his attitudes and lack of consideration.  He’s considered intolerant, racism and selfish. He has brought violence and division in the USA.  This is a real quote that reflects what’s happening now. People are afraid of what’s going to happen in the future because of the power he and his party are overtaking.  

 The word totalitarian also called my attention because it reflects power over the nation, and relates to the problem we ‘re facing today in USA. It means taking control over the freedom of others. “Form of government that theoretically permits no individual freedom and that seeks to subordinate all aspects of individual life to the authority of the state” (Britannica 1).   In my opinion, the totalitarian word is correlated to the quote because Trump wants to oppress citizens with his mandated laws and lack of opportunities.
