Trans-national America

“They believe that the most effective integration will be one which coordinates the diverse elements and turns them consciously toward working out together the place of America in the world- situation. They demand for integration a genuine integrity, a wholeness and soundness of enthusiasm and purpose which can only come when no national colony within our America feels that it is being discriminated against or that its cultural case is being prejudged” by Randolph Bourne

Bourne’s essay suggest that America is characterized as a diverse culture, which is compare as a melting-spot. It’s composed of many immigrants from different cultures that come to America to look for a better life. Bourne states that America doesn’t have a specific culture, if not that it’s a mash- up of different cultures and beliefs. Everyone is free to hold their customs and traditions. The Anglo Saxon were the first immigrants in America.  Although America is derived from the Anglo Saxon, Bourne suggest that America doesn’t hold a specific culture, if not that it’s characterized of different cultures and immigrants.

This quote emphasizes unity and collaborative work as a country. The United States is considered as a multicultural nation. Bourne’s main idea is to define America as nation of freedom in which people live as they want with their own beliefs and customs. He states, that although the British form part of the America history, America is characterized by different cultures. Bourne wanted an unified nation with honesty and freedom. He states that considering Anglo Saxon as the America’s root will not make America as a multicultural nation.

Finally, America is characterized by millions of immigrants which hold different beliefs. USA is a culture in which everyone is free to practice their own customs. I think that Bourne concerns as viewing America as a multicultural nation, and not as country derived from a specific root is seen today in the United States. There’s no America national culture, if not a nation characterized by different cultures. However, I believe that there’re some people including the president Trump that does not consider immigrants as the main constitution of the USA. I think he should be more supportive with those immigrants that came to USA to look for a better life, specially those children of DACA. Immigrants are the ones that characterized America. Anyhow, I still consider that the United States is a multicultural nation that doesn’t have a specific culture, and that is what I like about USA.
